~Humanitarians Yes – World Elephant Day~
This post was written in recognition of “World Elephant” day however can be read really for any day if it helps to understand and acknowledge these magnificent species of life better.
Elephants are one of the most loved animals on Earth. Kids, young and old folk alike from all over admire their strength and beauty and stature. It’s impossible not to notice their unique features and character traits which show that every part of their makeup is designed to help them survive and show off their majesty. Being the largest land animal on Earth their greatness of size and the way they carry their weight in a stylized manner comes across so with a grace and ease —and with their sensitive trunks that sway, and swish, and sense, and search, and repel the smells all define the acts of intelligence and reliable instinct especially in helping them in getting a sense of their environment and in day to day living and traveling—along with their flapping ears which are able to hear the faintest of sounds—and huge feet and sturdy legs also used intelligently as body tools for foraging food and digging up the Earth to get at subterranean water and nutrients for example, all demonstrates a great natural instinct and uncanny gift of survival.
And not to forget its acute sense of smell from its trunk and memories to rely on based on generations of survival and being deeply connected with the Earth and their natural habitat, makes this gentle animal at heart one that needs recognition and to live on and be a wonderful example of life and display of nature, and soul value to us humans and remain an essential part of continuity in the evolutionary chain of life on Earth.
Elephants are truly remarkable:
- They are the largest animals in the world.
- Have the largest brain of any land animal with three times as many neurons as humans.
- They produce tears and empathy especially at the death of a baby and they stop and grieve in silence over the spot that marks death of one of their kind.
- Are known to have complex thought patterns and carry deep feelings and sentiments.
- Gestate longer than any land animal (22 months) with their babies able to stand up even though awkwardly not long after being born.
- Live up to 57 years of age on average.
- Family orientated with the whole herd tending to the small ones.
These are just some of the facts of this animals’ extraordinary skills and makeup.
Their communication skills operate through subsonic vibrations carried through the Earth to other groups, whereupon in return they can receive messages through their feet and trunks. If elephants could speak in human language imagine what they’d have to say about us or to us. The fact is elephants have been used to help humans and sadly abused by humans. The senseless slaughter just for their ivory tusks (which they use also as an important tool to forage food also and dig up roots and de-barking of trees for example and for survival and protection)—on the black market is being addressed however still needs more done about it— it’s essential that news and information, and further education and learning more about their way of life, and helping to manage and make sure elephants of all countries are kept alive and their species allowed to go on and not become extinct is promoted.
Thankfully these days more and more awareness programs and issues on the elephants plight is being given attention and made a lot easier to bring to the world due to the media and technology that is doing great things regarding promotion of the Elephants cause in terms of for example their health and security, and survival in terms of prevention of trafficking, and senseless slaughter and degradation and maltreatment practices.
“World Elephant Day” is a special day given to recognize one of the Earth’s greatest lifeforms.
It’s a day for the elephants, and for us to celebrate and respect and love even more in compassion and wonder and beauty.
The intelligence and love of the elephants of the world give both service to sustaining of life and nature on earth and enjoyment to their uniqueness and how by their spirit can make us feel special and a part of nature and life on Earth as well.
I’d like to finish with an extract from out of a fiction novel book I wrote called “ Ascension Light Codes ” where a young elephant named “Santui” can talk in human language and is paying his respects and giving thanks. It’s at the point where a conversation is taking place between Sard who is one of the characters and Santui who is speaking for his kind.
“Well, I would like you to know that we have our feelings and a way of life that we share with the humans on this planet, sir,” said the young elephant politely and who had decided it was better to say what he considered to be of the utmost importance so that Sard would hear it and directly from the source.
“Yes, I understand Santui. Your kind has a wonderful spirit and we realize that you contribute much towards support of people’s lives and making children and others happy, not to mention the work your kind does in helping out with the resources for people’s survival.”
“Thank you Sir that is a nice complement you have paid us, and it is true what you say, which brings me to my point that I would like to mention. We need to be treated equally as much as others are on this planet. I know we have our life and that our physical bodies are different, yet we are the same as humans in so far as we also have our duty and responsibility as elephants to serve a higher good.”
“So please, if you ever get the opportunity to mention it to the media or whoever in your human family is in anyway connected with our welfare and livelihood and has an authority to support our cause, please let them know we are grateful for their help and all that they are doing to support us. Especially the ones who are seeking to stop the merciless killing of my kind by those who are only after glory and wealth,” he said with a tear starting to form in the corner of his eye.
“You know Santui for a baby elephant you sure speak like you are a lot older,” said Sard……..
Elephants are calling, they are wise and have their right and place as well to live here on Earth and surely deserve to be heard and treated equally as such.
