EDUCATION – CONSERVATION – CARE
Reef Check are a non-profit organisation and charity that engages the community in raising awareness about the ocean and reefs and how important they are as a natural resource for our survival—they want the community to very much get involved and participate in whatever way is appropriate.
Their main programs revolve around focusing on things to do with:
Reef Research: This refers to learning about reefs and their ecosystems and the different species of life that inhabit them, also collecting data and finding out what threatens reefs and monitoring the effects of natural forces and human impact upon the fragile ecosystem and also determining the benefits for why coral reefs are so important and the part they play in environmental sustainability.
Education: Their education programs cover everything from outdoor activities and excursions to reefs, training courses and workshops, and education in the classroom for students and teachers—in addition they have some core products in their shop for extra use as tools and additional features of learning more about how to save reefs and oceans. They also have a fun game for students to play to assist in the education of reef safety and underwater life.
Conservation: They have a range of conservation projects with whom they partner with such as government agencies and support groups in their line of work for example, and who are all devoted to raising awareness and bringing people together and informing them by participating and engaging in reef and ocean conservation—It’s through these projects and support comes a greater awareness and deeper appreciation in protecting reefs and conserving the natural environment of the oceans and living lifeforms that inhabit the reefs and coastal waterways.
Reef check is a very dedicated team of professionals who have a great website that can let you know exactly all the things they are involved in doing in this particular humanitarian field. They have many reef projects they are working on and have been involved in around the Australian coastline. It’s well worth your time to take a look at what Reef Check are doing and find out first-hand more about our reefs in Australia and in general.
Below are four of their programs that are currently operating. Visit Reef Check to find out more about what this top charity does.
