Kids Ark is a non-profit non-political non religious charity based in North Thailand that works with reducing poverty and making sure kids are given every opportunity to broaden their horizons through education and family support so as they can receive every opportunity life offers to them to grow and play an active role in the community.
Their programs are admirable with the main focus areas being:
Education: An after-school program for ethnic minority and disadvantaged kids that gives them the skills in a range of areas from computer learning, to crafts, to languages, and health, and in general learning in knowing how to build character and community inter-involvement. In addition there are programs where they have set up day-care centres and assistance in child support for schools and working with education programs set up by the local government.
Child Sponsorship: These are programs and incentives which kids Ark supplies as resources and funding for schooling and sponsoring kids so essential needs are met such as food, clothing, and school requirements as in school materials, and costs to buy items and pay for things which lend support to the villages so they can make some extra income and live safely and securely with the knowledge that their child may be able to get the extra essential things that cannot be provided for by either their families, or due to one or other unfortunate circumstance or life happening that happened to them which caused by no fault of their own the lack of resources to further develop their life path and have the means to education and skills to do be able to make a go of their life like most.
Livelihoods for Women: These are programs which support the cultural handicrafts and items created by women whose tradition and skills keep the cultural heritage of the community alive and also help sustain their livelihood— equipment and tools they need in assistance with setting up the resources is given so they can sell their products and grow their income and further develop their skill set—the women become valuable members within the community and their families, who depend on them for direction and as role models for the younger kids so they have something they themselves can take on and develop as they go through the stages of growing up.
Kids Ark has a worldwide reputation, they work with government and other non-government and partner services—they have been around since 2002 and have some wonderful stories to tell that speak directly from those whose Kids Ark has helped and worked with, well worth reading about on their website, that show exactly how valuable their work is and how important it is for the communities in northern Thailand.
